Mountain Weather

This is especially true of the White Mountains. You don't need survival gear for a backyard nature walk, but the Whites are different. Mount Washington is infamous for sometimes having the "worst weather in the world." In 1934 the observatory on the summit recorded the world's highest surface wind speed (231 m.p.h.). The temperature there has never risen above 72° F.

More than 100 people have died on Mount Washington, almost all due to weather-related complications. So it's essential that you dress appropriately and keep an eye on the sky. Turn back if bad weather threatens.
