AMC Recommended Trips – Paddling Lower Range Pond (Easy Paddling in ME)

What you’ll see: Crystal-clear water with sandy shores. Great for swimming and wildlife watching.

What you’ll experience:

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Area: 290 acres
  • Habitat: Deep, clear, wooded, kettle pond with some marshy areas
  • Map: Maine Atlas, Map 5, USGS Quadrangles, Minot and Mechanic Falls

What’s in the area:

  • Campground and YMCA camp at north end
  • Middle and Upper Range Ponds to the south

Getting There

  • From the south, from I-495, Exit 11, turn right, followed by the first two lefts (onto Route 202 north, then onto Route 26 north). Go 9.8 miles and turn right (east) onto Route 122. Go 1.4 miles and turn left onto Empire Road at the Range Pond State Park sign. Go 0.8 mile, and turn left onto the park.
  • From the north, from I-495, Exit 12, go south on Route 202, and turn right on Route 122. Go 3.8 miles, turn right onto Empire Road, and follow as above.
