What you’ll see: The Sudbury River will take you through the vast meadows and marshes of the Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. The Sudbury's lazy current accommodates paddling in both directions and, while narrower than the nearby Concord River, offers views of broad surrounding meadows and native marsh plants.

What you’ll experience:

  • Distance: 10.6 miles
  • Massachusetts Atlas, Map 40
  • USGS Quadrangles, Framingham and Maynard
  • Birding enthusiasts will particularly enjoy this trip with opportunities to observe the abundant birdlife & streamside perches.

What’s in the area:

  • Osprey
  • Waterfowl
  • Marsh birds
  • Aquatic vegetation
  • Buttonbush, Purple loosestrife, and small patches of water clover

Getting There

From the junction of Routes 20, 27, and 126 in Wayland, take Route 20 west. Take an immediate diagonal left onto Pelham Island Road.
