What you’ll see:

This is the Catskills’ most popular interior forest route, traversing the Slide Mountain Wilderness Area and providing hikers with a scenic and memorable wilderness experience.

What you’ll experience:

  • Moss-covered ledges and talus slopes under a canopy of mature forest.
  • Old fire rings that were built over mosses, which have never recovered.
  • An area that is fragile and sensitive because of the many visitors it has endured over the years

What’s in the area:

  • Picturesque rock formations.
  • Fern, violet, and trout lily.
  • Sections of crumbling white quartz pebbles that some early guidebook writers call the Garden Path

  • to Terrace Mountain Trail: 2.6 mi., 1 hr. 30 min.
  • to Wittenberg summit (ascent 2500 ft.): 3.9 mi., 2 hr. 30 min.
  • to Cornell summit (Cloud Cliff): 4.7 mi., 3 hr.
  • to Slide summit: 7.0 mi., 4 hr. 30 min.
  • to Slide Mountain Parking Area: 9.75 mi., 5 hr. 30 min.
