New Hampshire 4,000-Footer Planning Guide – Mount Eisenhower
Note: For complete trail descriptions, times, elevation, trailhead directions, and major features, see the AMC White Mountain Guide.
Profile
Mount Eisenhower (4,760 ft.), part of the southern Presidential Range, has a bald summit that offers 360-degree views of the surrounding area.
Suggested Routes
Moderate: The Edmands Path provides the easiest access to Mt. Eisenhower, bringing hikers to the junction of the Crawford Path, the oldest maintained footpath in America, and the Mt. Eisenhower Loop Trail. From the junction, a half hour hike on the Mt. Eisenhower Loop Trail will bring you to Eisenhower’s summit.
Trip Planning
The AMC’s Mizpah Spring Hut is located approximately 2.5 miles to the southwest of the summit of Mt. Eisenhower, providing an overnight stop for those who wish to continue hiking in the Southern Presidential range. It is open from mid-May (self-service in May) to mid-October, offering meals and overnight accommodations.
The AMC’s Lakes of the Clouds Hut is located approximately 2.5 miles to the northeast of the summit of Mt. Eisenhower, on the southern shoulder of Mt. Washington. The hut provides full-service accommodations to hikers from early June to mid-September.
The AMC’s Hiker Shuttle stops at The Highland Center, located near the Crawford Path Trailhead, to connect hikers with area overnight accommodations and other local trailheads.
Safety
The AMC recommends all hikers check weather conditions in advance, carry a current map and guidebook, along with a compass and knowledge of how to use it. For recommendations on how to plan a safe hike in the White Mountains, see: The 10 essentials for a safe and pleasant hike.
Note: All peaks of the Presidentials above the treeline are nearly as exposed to the elements as Mt. Washington, and should be treated with the same degree of respect and caution. Severe winter-like storms can occur at any time of the year.
Fun Fact
Mt. Eisenhower was called Mt. Pleasant until it was renamed after President Eisenhower’s death.
