Information Volunteers

AMC Information Volunteers are friendly folks who possess a firm Information Volunteersknowledge base in outdoor recreation, as well as the trails around the destination they serve...in the White Mountains and at Cardigan Lodge in Alexandria, NH.  They provide recreation information (trails, gear, trip planning, weather, etc.), conservation and natural history information, assist with retail sales and provide information on AMC membership... these volunteers are an invaluable resource to both the public and the AMC!

Who Should Apply
The individuals who will most enjoy being information volunteers are those who:

  • Have a friendly, outgoing, professional manner and experience working with the general public in a recreational setting.
  • Are AMC members.
  • Have solid knowledge of the destination, the surrounding area and trails where they intend to volunteer (see locations below).
  • Be relied upon to complete an evaluation form on each visit and submit it to supervising staff.
  • Volunteer a minimum of two days during the year.

What Volunteers Will Do
Information volunteers perform a number of rewarding responsibilities. They:

  • Provide information on AMC membership as a means to enjoy and protect our natural heritage in the Northeast.
  • Provide additional assistance as requested by the supervisor, which may include hosting; dining with guests; or selling AMC T-shirts, snacks, and other retail items to enhance visitor enjoyment/safety and provide financial support for our public service programs.
  • Attend a two-day spring training session annually for the first three years of service.
  • Make a firm commitment to provide coverage of at least four days annually.
