Angel Santos Burres, Director of Outdoors Rx

Angel joined the AMC staff in January 2016. She oversees all aspects of the Outdoors Rx program development, implementation and growth. Angel brings a diverse background including work in public education and urban communities, fundraising, technology, communications, event planning, curriculum development, and program management. In addition to nonprofit consulting, Angel has served as Director of Corporate Relations and Events at Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center, played a number of leadership roles with Boston Public Schools, and worked at youth serving organizations such as Citizens Schools and Jumpstart for Young Children. Angel has a BA in Communications Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Christina Scirica, Outdoors Rx Medical Director

Christina Scirica, MD, MPH, FAAP, Mass General Hospital for Children, is a Harvard-trained pediatric pulmonologist with expertise in the management of pulmonary conditions, exercise intolerance, and obesity. Dr. Scirica is a member of the faculty of Harvard Medical School and is on staff at Massachusetts General Hospital in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology. Dr. Scirica is the founding Director of Inspired Health, a novel clinical program that helps overweight children and adolescents with respiratory conditions optimize their overall health through improved nutrition and physical fitness. Dr. Scirica is also the medical director of Outdoors Rx, a unique partnership between the Mass General Hospital for Children and the Appalachian Mountain Club that encourages children and families to increase their level of outdoor physical activity.

With a Masters of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, Dr. Scirica is a strong patient and community advocate on issues related to asthma, fitness, nutrition, and obesity. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and serves on their Committee on Obesity. Dr. Scirica also serves on the Massachusetts Medical Society Committee on Student Health and Sports Medicine, as well as on the Interdisciplinary Health Education and Human Services Advisory Council to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Dr. Scirica has written numerous textbook chapters and journal articles relating to her field of practice, and has given invited lectures to medical audiences on both the local and the national stage. She was awarded the Partners Healthcare System's "Partners in Excellence Award" twice – once in recognition of outstanding performance and commitment to excellence, and a second time for exemplary performance in leadership and innovation. An accomplished medical educator, she was awarded the "Harvard Medical Student Teaching Award" on two separate occasions by graduating Harvard medical students.
