AMC Remains Opposed to the New England Clean Energy Connect Transmission Line Proposal Despite Recent Project Changes

November 6, 2018

On Thursday, October 18th Central Maine Power (CMP) notified Maine regulators that they now intend to bury the proposed transmission line under Kennebec Gorge.  This announcement came after a lengthy public hearing the previous night before the Maine Public Utilities Commission, during which the vast majority of more than 70 speakers expressed opposition to the proposed power line.

While burying the line under Kennebec Gorge addresses one significant flaw in the siting of the proposed 145-mile transmission project, it does nothing to address AMC’s other concerns about forest fragmentation, visual and wildlife impacts, impacts to the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, and verifiable greenhouse gas emissions reductions.  AMC remains opposed to the project as proposed.
