Help Protect Special Places in Maine

A proposal by the Maine Land Use Planning Commission (LUPC) threatens the places we love by allowing new residential development in remote places, such as in close proximity to remote lakes and trails.

Speak up today by sending a letter to the Maine Land Use Planning Commission expressing your concerns about opening up remote areas to development.

AMC is concerned about the impact this sweeping proposal would have on the remote recreational experiences we love. In particular, allowing residential subdivisions to be built within ½ mile of recreational resources including  trailheads along the Appalachian National Scenic Trail (AT), Northern Forest Canoe Trail, and many other incredible lakes and trails seems irresponsible. It is our strong belief that these kinds of developments are most appropriate in and immediately adjacent to (within three miles) nearby communities.

You can review the specifics of the proposal on the LUPC website.

AMC has been engaging with LUPC directly in this process for months  but we need members like you to weigh in with your concerns. You can submit your own comments today or read AMC’s comments which detail our specific concerns.
