Custom Trail Stewardship Programs are a great way to organize a group to help volunteer on trails.
Whether it’s a group of friends, a corporate or church outing, or a school-based field trip, AMC offers the chance for your crew to give back to the very trails you enjoy. Projects can range from half to multiple days and can be incorporated into a backpacking trip or overnight stay at an AMC destination.
How It Works
On the day of the project, our Trail Crew leaders will meet your group at the specified trailhead or destination. All tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided—including helmets, glasses, and gloves. You’ll begin with an instructional lesson covering everything from tool use and safety techniques to a general overview of the project. Lunch will be eaten on the trail and your day will conclude in the afternoon.
AMC staff is responsible for the trail project coordination, teaching of trail work skills, and maintaining safety at the project site. All other responsibilities fall on the group leaders—including supervision, time-management, and handling any disciplinary issues in their group. For an extra fee, Custom Crew Leaders can facilitate additional learning skills.
Where We Work
AMC offers Custom Trail Crews in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts. If you have a trail outside of these areas you’d like to work on, we can arrange to come to you, however an extra fee may be involved.
AMC charges affordable fees for staff leadership, tools, safety equipment, and transportation. Our Programs Office will work with you to find the best price and project itinerary for your group. Groups are responsible for all of their own costs associated with the project including food, shelter, lodging, and transportation.
The current rates for one Custom Crew Leader, trail work tools, and safety equipment (up to 12 individuals), is $250/day for youth groups or $500/day for corporate crews. Additional participants will require another leader. A 20% non-refundable deposit is due 30 days prior to the start date.
