August Camp

The AMC’s August Camp changes its location each year to take advantage of hiking opportunities throughout North America. Recent sites have included: Canadian Rockies, Central Cascades in Oregon, the Olympic Peninsula; the High Sierra in California; the Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Rainier in Washington.
In 2019, August Camp experiences the incredible beauty of Mount Rainier National Park. Marvel at spectacular scenery while walking among towering hemlocks, relive the drama of Mt. St. Helens, and hike on the shoulder of the second highest peak in the lower 48 (Mount Rainier). Camp will be set up in the small former lumbering town of Packwood adjacent to the park.
This full service tent village for 64 campers each week offers home-cooked meals, daily hikes at all levels, nightly campfires and wonderful camaraderie. Plan to attend for one week or more. Detailed registration information will be on our web site by early December. Go to:


Season Dates

Campers may sign up for one or two weeks, starting any Saturday.


August Camp, a full-service tent village for 64 campers each week, offers multiple hikes daily for all levels of ability, several overnights and a number of water-based activities. Car camping and backpacking, sightseeing excursions, river rafting, canoeing and kayaking may also be offered. Delicious home-cooked meals and trail lunches are provided; great camaraderie and nightly campfires make for a memorable experience. Provided are two-person tents with cots, family-style meals in the dining tent, and transportation between the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) and camp and to and from daily activities.

Reservations & Policies

Applications will be accepted beginning January 2, 2019 in the order in which they are received.

Reservation information will be available on the August Camp website ( by early December.

Cancellation, Payment and Refund Policy

  • Cancellations must be mailed or e-mailed to the Registrar – phone cancellations will not be accepted.
  • If a cancellation is postmarked by March 1, all but $50/person will be refunded.
  • If a cancellation is postmarked between March 1 and May 1, all but $300/person will be refunded.
  • For cancellations postmarked after May 1, but at least 31 days prior to the first Saturday which a person is registered, 50% of payment in excess of $300/person will be refunded.
  • No refunds will be given for cancellations received within 30 days of the first Saturday for which a person is registered.

We strongly encourage campers to buy Trip Cancellation Insurance, since we cannot make exceptions to our cancellation policy for medical issues and other personal emergencies that may arise.
