River Paddling

From Little Lyford, river paddling is available on the West Branch of the Pleasant River, which runs through our property. The first half (approximately 4 miles) runs from the KI Road to Silver Lake and the Katahdin Iron Works historic site. It is rated Quick water/Class I navigable from mid May to mid June.

Class II and III paddling is available downriver to Brownville Junction in mid-April and May. Consult AMC’s River Guide Maine for details.

From Medawisla, paddlers can canoe on the Roach River from Kokadjo to Moosehead Lake for a distance of 6.5 miles. There is a strong current all the way, mostly class II with some class III. Canoe in spring at medium or high water. Beware of strong winds on Moosehead Lake. Northern Pride Lodge can be contacted to provide a shuttle (207-695-2890). See AMC’s River Guide Maine for details.
