Welcome to the AMC potomac Chapter

Billy Goat Trail Hike Thanksgiving Morning

The Potomac Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club was established in 1984. It is the southernmost of 12 regional AMC chapters supporting outdoor and conservation activities from Maine to Virginia. The Chapter’s 3,000+ members reside in Maryland, Virginia, as well as in the District of Columbia.

AMC Potomac Chapter outdoor activities include day-hiking, backpacking, paddling, biking, and social get-togethers. Our Chapter’s activities are open to the public and can be found on the AMC Activity Database or Potomac Chapter’s Meetup.com page. Most of the Chapter outings do not require AMC membership, but we encourage you to join as club dues support both club-wide and Potomac Chapter conservation efforts and outdoor activities.

While chapter outdoor activities are currently suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our Executive Committee has been meeting remotely to make plans for when things re-open.  In the meantime, you can still get involved!  Are you concerned about the environment and eager to promote conservation?  Join AMC’s Conservation Action Network and make a difference (even from your couch).  Interested in learning more about the outdoors or brushing up on your outdoor skills?  Check out the many ONLINEWITHAMC offerings on the AMC Activity Database.  We’re making lots of plans, so stick around and join the fun!
