Family Adventure Camp Level of Difficulty
Program participants should be able to complete a moderate 4-hour day hike in a backcountry setting.  Parents or grandparents will participate with children in all programs, and in the best position to judge the abilities of children or grandchildren. Our program staff will base each day's activities based on group ability. Depending on the size of the group, we may split the group so that there is an option of an easier and a more challenging hike.

Families looking for a little more challenge may want to consider a Family Adventure Camp with a hut overnight option. And families with younger children (3-5) might consider our Wee Wanderers, Family Explorations at Cardigan Lodge.

If you have any questions about which family adventure is right for your interests and abilities, please call us and we’ll connect you to program staff.

It was just what we were looking for in a family vacation. We met so many nice people—both the guides and the other families. The whole staff was really great—they even got my 6-year-old to try a kayak!”—Jeanne Passannante (Highland Center)

“There is not enough room to say how organized this family camp was. From the minute we arrived we were greeted with big smiles, our week was very well planned, full of varied, naturally beautiful things to see! The staff were strong, kind, and very capable leaders.”—Marla Martin (Joe Dodge Lodge)

This was our first AMC experience and we’re already looking forward to the next one. All of us learned a lot and took home lessons about conservation, wildlife, and nature. We will always have special memories of this vacation!”—Sharon & Peter Loftspring (Highland Center)

We had a blast! I would recommend this program to anyone. Thank you for having a family camp that was a ‘family camp’ and not a ‘drop-your-kid-off-and-do-your-own-thing’ camp.”—Jane & Gregory Martin (Highland Center)

"The setting was lovely and the staff was excellent!"—Stephen Alden & Carol Vredenburgh, (Little Lyford Lodge and Cabins)

"Great selection of healthy, fresh food was always available. Programs were well-organized and leaders were friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating.”—The Sicard Family (Highland Center)

"Excellent hiking and teaching of outdoor skills. Kids learned about nature and had a great educational, fun experience! "—Michael Douyard (Joe Dodge Lodge)

“I liked that we had the flexibility to pick our activities.”—Naomi Maekawa (Highland Center)

“One of the best family vacations ever.”—Steve Dexter (Highland Center)
