Trails & Recreation Management

Lend a hand to support your trails.

With over 100 years of experience building and managing trails, AMC cares for some of the Northeast’s most iconic trails — more than 1,800 miles in total — and we couldn't do it without you. Every year, our staff works alongside thousands of volunteers to maintain and build trails. By joining one of our trail crews, you can combine your passions of being outdoors and contributing to the protection of the environment. By hiring one of our trail crews, you can take advantage of our team’s professional training and deep experience in recreation management. You can also always contribute to our Trails Fund.

Professional Trail Services

AMC’s expertise in trail construction, campsite planning and management, and mapping services reflects more than a century of experience. We pair the most current understanding of sustainable trail design with techniques that we've honed and refined for trails throughout the Northeast. Projects range from urban walkways to rugged backcountry campsites.

Adopt-A-Trail

Select an available trail to become a steward, which includes checking on the trail's condition, clearing drainage structures, cutting back vegetation, and digging into small projects to improve and restore your designated section. AMC provides free training and access to tools and safety equipment. Your stewardship commitment is for one year, with an option to renew, and you can set your own maintenance schedule (AMC generally advises three maintenance visits a year). Your adoption and maintenance assist our Trails department in project planning, needs, and issues.
