AMC’s Guide to Holiday Gifts with a Purpose

By Jenny O'Connell,

Holiday gifts shouldn’t cost an arm, a leg, or the earth. This season, choose mindful gifts that foster a connection to the outdoors with minimal impact and maximum joy.

It’s so much more than a hat or a hoodie. Every dollar from your purchase helps cover the Appalachian Mountain Club’s nonprofit work, from conducting research that impacts legislation to hosting experiences that inspire a love for the outdoors.

Did you catch AMC’s new logo reveal this fall? Show off your AMC pride with our new gear, or treat your favorite outdoor explorer to a fresh look.

  • Burgeon in Lincoln, NH, uses sustainable materials whenever possible to bring you high-performance clothing for any adventure. Breathable and soft, Burgeon’s AMC men’s and women’s Highlander Hoodie is a technical mid-layer that’s just as good for keeping you warm on an adventure as it is for cozying up on the couch with your favorite book.
  • Brave the cold with a new limited edition AMC winter hat by Skida, our local VT partner. (Available online only.)
  • Stay hydrated with AMC’s new Nalgene water bottle, made from 50% recycled material.
  • AMC patches, stickers, and pins make the perfect stocking stuffers. Or deck out the tree with an AMC ornament!

Don’t see what you’re looking for here? Check out all of our new arrivals.

For the Bookworms in Your Life

Whether they’d rather cozy up to read about the night sky or plan their next adventure, here are some of this year’s best AMC titles:

  • If You Can See The Dark, the first ever children’s picture book from the Appalachian Mountain Club, teaches kids about the importance of dark skies for animals, plants, and ourselves.
  • Collecting the most popular sections of the White Mountain Guide in a pocket-sized offering, The Trail Guide to Mount Washington and the Presidential Range is any outdoor adventurer’s shortcut to great Presidential hiking.
  • AMC’s White Mountain Guide has been the must-have guide to the Whites for 115 years and counting! The 31st edition features over 500 trails, a checklist of New England’s 4,000 footers, and six pull-out topographic maps updated with the latest trail information.
  • Who doesn’t love a good story? Get them a subscription to Appalachia, America’s longest-running journal of mountaineering and conservation, featuring poems, prose, and exciting tales from your backyard and around the world.

Give an Unforgettable Experience

Sometimes, the best gifts aren’t things—they’re shared moments with the people you care about. Whether you’re planning a getaway, dreaming of an adventure, or looking to join a vibrant community that loves the outdoors, we’ve got you covered.

  • Book a retreat at an AMC lodge. From cozy escapes just outside the city to backcountry adventures and everything in-between, our AMC locations are ready to be explored.
  • Sign up for an AMC-led outdoor adventure. Whether you and your favorite people want to try a new outdoor activity, test your limits in a safe environment, or meet your next lifetime adventure buddies, going with one of AMC’s experienced guides takes the work out of planning so you can lean into the fun!
  • Give a Membership. Members enjoy up to 20% off AMC lodging, gear, and merchandise, plus access to thousands of activities with a passionate outdoors community. It’s the gift that keeps on giving!

Still can’t decide? We make it easy with virtual gift cards.

Give back to the Outdoors

Why limit your holiday giving to people? Celebrate the places you love by signing up for Conservation Action Network alerts, becoming a volunteer leader, and supporting AMC’s crucial work in the outdoors with a donation.

Happy holidays from AMC! We are so grateful to be in community with you.

Smiling people in AMC gear.
