Submit Your AMC Story

Celebrate 150 years of AMC by sharing your stories of connection in the outdoors.

The Appalachian Mountain Club has been inspiring people to connect with the outdoors and each other since 1876. In celebration of AMC’s 150th anniversary, we are launching a community storytelling project—and we want to hear YOURS! Your story will become part of AMC’s official Archives, and select submissions may also be featured on our blog, social media, or website.

The Mello Family

"It’s tough to say exactly when our love for AMC began, but it likely started when our daughter Cordelia, age three, set off toward Zealand Hut. She scrambled joyfully over every trail rock and root until a promised cookie from the croo convinced her to hop in the kid carrier. That treat, followed by a bedtime story and a morning dip in the Falls, sealed the deal. She and we were back next summer and every summer since, with hut stays across the Whites.  Discovering mountain creatures of all kinds and making new friends along the way had become a rite of the season."

Submission Guidelines

Record or upload your video, photos, or written story below. The submission portal will stay open through the end of 2026, but the sooner you submit your story, the better—we'll be featuring stories throughout 2026 as we celebrate our 150th anniversary! Stories must be true, personal, and related to AMC.

Story Prompts

Start with one of these, or blaze your own trail!

  • Have you ever been moved to tears outdoors — by awe, beauty, or love for the moment you were in?
  • Have you felt your heart swell as a trail opened up to an unforgettable view?
  • Think of a time when fear or uncertainty gripped you outside, but you made it through. What happened? Who helped you through?
  • Do you remember a moment when someone’s simple kindness on the trail — sharing a snack, water, or encouragement — meant everything?
