Cold River Camp

Cold River Camp

Since 1919, Cold River Camp has offered guests an authentic New England hiking camp experience in the White Mountains, great for all ages. Surrounded by the mountains of Evans Notch, Cold River Camp is within striking distance of The Presidentials and the Saco and Androscoggin Rivers.

Full-week reservations open January 1. Partial-week reservations open April 1.

Start Reservation

Hike by day in the surrounding mountains of Evans Notch, or venture further afield, returning each night to your woodland cabin and a community dining experience in the Conant Lodge. Go for a swim in the Cold River, followed by a hot shower and evening programs.

Single, double, and family cabins are available, most with fireplaces or wood stoves and kerosene lamps. Breakfast, trail lunch and dinner are served daily and included with your stay. Cold River Camp offers indoor bathroom facilities with hot showers, a central lodge with living and dining rooms and porch, recreation hall, and a cabin. Electricity is available in common buildings, and linens are provided during the summer season. Up to two children, under 12, per paying adult can stay for free at Cold River Camp for one week, either June 27 to July 3 or July 4 to July 11. This offer is good for all camp guests during these first two weeks, including returning campers or new first-time campers.

Getting Here

Cold River Camp is located in Chatham, N.H. off Route 113/Main Road. From NH-16 North, take the NH-25 East ramp to Center Ossipee/Portland, Maine. Continue for 5 miles, then turn left onto NH-153 North. Continue on NH-153 N for 12.5 miles, then turn right onto Stark Road. In 3 miles, turn right onto NH-113 East and follow that to the camp (approximately 24 miles). The last stretch of the drive is along Rt 113, which is windy, bumpy, and very poorly lit. The camp itself will be on the right-hand side of the road and is marked by a large stone mill wheel, but it’s easy to drive by. Look for the sign that says AMC Cold River Camp. Be aware there is also a public campground a little farther north called Cold River Campground. This is not us. If you reach the Baldface parking lot or the National Forest Campground, you’ve gone too far north.
