Fight for the Future of Winter

Your support fuels research to understand and protect winter’s last snow-covered landscapes.

Donate Now

Winters are getting shorter.

Here in the Northeast, we’ve already lost three weeks of winter weather and snow cover over the last 100 years. As winters grow shorter and snow becomes less predictable, the impacts go beyond recreation—they affect the resilience of entire ecosystems.

But there is still time to act!

AMC scientists are studying snow refugia—places where snow and wintry conditions persist even as the climate warms. Understanding why these areas are more resilient can help us develop strategies to protect winter, safeguard native species, and preserve the landscapes we love. Your support makes this work possible.

With your gift today, you will fund:

  • Critical field research in the White Mountain National Forest and Maine
  • State-of-the-art equipment to track snow depth, temperature, and climate patterns
  • Data analysis that informs conservation policies to protect the future of winter

When we know more about how snow refugia work, we can share our findings with legislators and policymakers to advocate for informed decisions that protect winter and the outdoors.
