AMC in New York
The Appalachian Mountain Club has been connecting New Yorkers to the outdoors for over 100 years. The AMC New York-North Jersey Chapter was founded in 1912, and chapter members were integral to the construction of the trail network in Harriman State Park, across the river from New York City.
Over a century later, AMC continues to provide opportunities for New Yorkers to enjoy adventures in the outdoors, whether it’s a backpacking adventure in the Palisades or a naturalist walk in Central Park. As part of our All Out action plan for 2030, we are making efforts to grow our New York community through increased AMC awareness and presence, events, programming, and partners.
Events
By leading events and programs, we give potential members multiple opportunities to build a relationship with AMC.
Programming
AMC’s renewed investment in programming will focus on meeting potential members where they live: in New York City’s five boroughs.
AMC’s Reeves Meadow Visitor Center in Harriman State Park will become a pilot Community Hub for community connection and mission message delivery and engagement.
Partners
AMC can extend its reach to drive membership, funding, and overall community awareness by partnering with mission-relevant organizations.
