The Stephen & Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center is an ideal destination for anyone looking for hiking, paddling, and camping opportunities in the heart of Harriman State Park at Breakneck Pond. Harriman State Park, New York’s second largest park, is located 30 miles from Manhattan and accessible by public transportation.
The Stephen & Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center is open to the public, and is a great location for scouting, school, faith-based, and youth groups as well as family reunions and corporate outings.
The Center offers common space for outdoor programs, waterfront access to 64-acre Breakneck Pond, a dining hall, and group meeting space. Accommodations include group and family cabins, tent platforms, and three-sided shelters, offering a range of overnight experiences.
The public can also enjoy The Stephen & Betsy Corman AMC Harriman Outdoor Center through an AMC adult, family, or teen program. Membership is not required to join an AMC program. Arrival and Departure
Registered guests are welcome to enjoy the Outdoor Center beginning at 3:00 PM on the day of their arrival and are asked to leave the property by 3:00 PM on day of departure

Accessibility
Cranberry 1 and Cranberry 2, Dining Hall, Rec Hall, and Upper Bath House are wheelchair-accessible. Camping areas are not accessible.
Cabins
Cabins are reserved on a per-cabin basis at a fixed rate, regardless of the number of guests. Cabins are equipped with small refrigerators and outdoor grills. Dinner and breakfast are also available in the dining room. Trail lunches are available for purchase. Cabins have electric lighting, but bring a headlamp for reading and getting around camp. A pillow and pillowcase are provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag or linens, bath and beach towels. Linens with a blanket, and towels, are available for rent.

Camping
Campsites are available individually or as complete blocks of shelters and tent platforms at a fixed rate, regardless of the number of guests. A shared bathhouse with showers and a dishwashing station is centrally located. Guests can cook using camp stoves (not provided) or the provided shared fire rings or camp grills in their camping area. Charcoal is available for purchase in the Camp Store. Each camping area has a bear box. Dinner, breakfast and trail lunches are available to campers in the dining room. Reserve meals 8 or more days prior to arrival and receive Early Bird discounted rates.

This is a four campsite pack-in site, 0.5 miles from camp and only accessible by foot. Trail is rated easy-to moderate. Appropriate foot gear required. Prepare by bringing a backpack with tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpacking stove, and drinking water.

Boulder Canyon:
This is a four campsite, pack-in site .25 miles from camp and only accessible by foot. Trail is rated easy-to moderate. Appropriate foot gear required. Prepare by bringing a backpack with tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, backpacking stove, and drinking water.

Rocky Flats:

Meal Service
Dinner, breakfast, and a to-go trail lunch are available on an a la carte basis, with dinner and breakfast served in the dining room. Order meals 8 or more days in advance and received Early Bird discounted rates. Meal reservations made fewer than 8 days prior to arrival cannot be guaranteed available.

Meeting Space
Groups can reserve private meeting space in 4-hour blocks. All other space, including the dining hall, deck, and waterfront, are open to all guests.
Canoe and Kayak Rental
Guests can use canoes and kayaks at no charge, thanks to the generosity of AMC’s New York – North Jersey Chapter.
Pets
We are not able to accommodate pets at Harriman Outdoor Center. Pets are not allowed in buildings, camping areas, and swimming areas.
Quiet Hours
Please be respectful of other guests and observe quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
Alcohol
In accordance with state and PIPC regulations, guests 21 years of age and older may bring alcohol for their own personal consumption. Please limit alcohol consumption to the cabins, or the dining room during posted meal hours. AMC encourages responsible alcohol consumption and reserves the right to limit and/or exclude alcohol use in the camp at any time.
Smoking
Smoking or open flame are not allowed in or near any structure.
Day Use Policy
AMC’s Harriman Outdoor Center is operated under a long-term lease from the Palisades Interstate Park Commission (PIPC). As a result, AMC is bound by the rules set by PIPC regarding trail access into Harriman Outdoor Center and swimming in Breakneck Pond. In particular, AMC is bound by rules pertaining to water safety and use of the dock and swimming area at the Harriman Outdoor Center.
Because of rules set by PIPC, hikers and other day users should stay on official trails and not use the network of informal, unofficial trails leading into the Harriman Outdoor Center. In addition, hikers and day users should not swim in Breakneck Pond. Use of Harriman Outdoor Center, including the driveway, parking, waterfront/dock area, and informal trails near the Harriman Outdoor Center are limited to registered guests and program participants. The public is welcome to enjoy Harriman Outdoor Center as overnight guests and program participants. All AMC lodges, huts, and programs are open to the general public with an advance reservation, and membership is not required.

ACTIVITIES
Harriman Outdoor Center offers swimming and paddling on Breakneck Pond, and hiking on Harriman State Park’s trail network. There is access to the Pine Meadow Pond, Cranberry Mountain, Buck, and Breakneck Mountain Trails nearby. The Long Path is approximately 2 miles away following connecting trails.
The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference offers a number of ideas for recreating within the Park. We also recommend the New York – New Jersey Trail Conference’s Harriman-Bear Mountain Southern Trail Map (118) to people interested in hiking opportunities near the Center.

What to Bring
Harriman Outdoor Center offers cabin, shelter, and camping sites. If you are staying in a cabin, pillows with cases, and mattresses are provided. Please bring a sleeping bag or set of sheets, bath and beach towels (and a swimsuit if you plan to swim). Cabins have electric lighting, but bring a headlamp for reading and getting around camp at night. Towels, and linen sets, including a blanket, are available for rent.
Public transportation and hiker shuttle
There is adequate parking capacity at the camp to accommodate overnight guests who wish to drive to the outdoor center. However, guests are encouraged to carpool or use public transportation. A shuttle to and from NJ Transit’s Tuxedo Station is available for those preferring public transportation. Reservations are required.
Advance reservations are preferred as there might not always be room for walk-ons. If your group needs to arrange for a pick up and drop off time outside the published schedule, you can make arrangements along with your lodging reservations.

Rates:
One way trip on daily scheduled shuttle: $8 per person
Round trip on daily scheduled shuttle: $16 per person
One way trip outside of daily scheduled shuttle times: $14 per person
Round trip outside of daily scheduled shuttle times: $28 per person
There are four daily shuttles available at the regular cost per day, two incoming and two outgoing. Daily shuttles require reservations and are guaranteed.
Any reservations for trains arriving or departing outside of these times will incur the higher transportation fee. There is no guarantee that there will be a shuttle available outside of these posted times. Reservations are required for ALL shuttle requests.
