Let AMC Do Your Vacation Planning

We combine one to five days of outdoor adventure with kid-friendly mountain hospitality in spectacular settings in New Hampshire and Maine. Our expert staff will lead a full program of activities for parents and kids ages 5-12. Families with younger children should check out our Wee Wanderers programs for kids ages 3-5.

We make planning family adventure vacations easy with our all-inclusive program, including daily guided activities, meals, and lodging. These programs are a great way to enjoy the camaraderie of other families who share your outdoor interests!

Family Adventure Camps are led by experienced AMC guides who  come from various backgrounds, including outdoor education and environmental studies. All guides go through rigorous training and have a minimum of Wilderness First Aid training.

About Family Adventures

Level of Difficulty

Program participants should be able to complete a moderate 4-hour day hike in a backcountry setting. Parents or grandparents will participate with children in all programs, and are in the best position to judge the abilities of children or grandchildren.

Our program staff will base each day’s activities based on group ability. Depending on the size of the group, we may split the group so that there is an option of an easier and a more challenging hike.

Families looking for a little more challenge may want to consider a Family Adventure with a hut overnight option. Families with younger children (3-5) might consider our Wee Wanderers Family Explorations. If you have any questions about which family adventure is right for your interests and abilities, please call us and we’ll connect you to program staff.

A breakfast buffet, trail lunch, and sit-down family-style dinner, including home-baked bread, soup, salad, entree, and dessert, are included with your guided program package. Vegetarian options are always available. At least one kid-friendly dinner option, such as macaroni and cheese, fajitas, and chicken fingers is available daily. Dinner is usually served buffet-style so kids can eat early. Staff will generally organize an activity for kids during meal time so parents can socialize and take more time to finish dinner. Please notify us during registration of any special dietary requirements. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets, and most food allergies, with advance notice.

It was just what we were looking for in a family vacation. We met so many nice people-both the guides and the other families. The whole staff was really great-they even got my 6-year-old to try a kayak!”

Jeanne P. (Highland Center)

“There is not enough room to say how organized this family camp was. From the minute we arrived we were greeted with big smiles, our week was very well planned, full of varied, naturally beautiful things to see! The staff were strong, kind, and very capable leaders.”

Marla M. (Joe Dodge Lodge)

“This was our first AMC experience and we’re already looking forward to the next one. All of us learned a lot and took home lessons about conservation, wildlife, and nature. We will always have special memories of this vacation!”

Sharon & Peter L. (Highland Center)
