AMC's Policy Initiatives Across the Northeast
AMC works with decision makers, federal & state agencies, and many recreation and conservation partners on landscape-scale conservation initiatives and public policy issues to promote the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of America's Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. We lead regional conservation and recreation initiatives, and support public policy issues, including energy, air quality, and land protection policies based on sound science.
What We're Doing
AMC advocates for federal and state funding to protect special places across the Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic, including full funding of the Land and Water Conservation Fund and reauthorization of the Highlands Conservation Act. We also seek to influence policies that impact the public's access to those places, and advocate for funding and recognition for our riverways and trails at the federal and regional level. Our research department studies the way climate change effects our region, and we're working to minimize our carbon and energy impacts and encourage our members to do the same. AMC's team also works to address new challenges to our landscape as they emerge, ranging from threats to conservation funding, to inappropriately-sited development proposals.
