Bring Your Family to the Huts

Adventures for All Ages: AMC's High Mountain Huts

It’s the ultimate adventure—and kids are welcome! Nestled amidst the awe-inspiring wilderness, the Appalachian Mountain Club huts provide families with a distinctive blend of camaraderie and adventure. Their rustic charm and inviting ambiance offer a sanctuary where both parents and children can disconnect from the distractions of modern life and reconnect with nature and each other.

What’s Included

  • Spend more quality time with your kids, and let us take care of the cooking and cleaning. We provide dinner and breakfast to all overnight guests!
  • Enjoy daily naturalist programming after dinner.
  • Take the opportunity to slow down and watch the sunset over a mountain ridgeline with your kids.
  • Close out your day with a card game after dinner, complete with tea and cocoa.
  • Watch as your children make fast friends with other kids who have hiked up to spend the night in the woods!
  • Kids who complete a junior naturalist activity will be honored during a very fancy ceremony at breakfast.

Getting Here

The hike into AMC huts is part of the fun! You can pack light knowing that we’ll have warm food and a snug bed waiting for you. For more information on the hikes into the huts, visit our huts page or each destination page.

If you wish to stay at the Highland Center at Crawford Notch the night before your hike, you can park at the Highland Center and take the AMC Hiker Shuttle to the either of the trailheads mentioned above. Click here to view the shuttle schedule.

Additional Considerations

  • Accommodations are in co-ed bunkrooms, and the bunk beds have a mattress, pillow, and wool blankets. We recommend bringing a sleeping bag, pillowcase, and headlamp.
  • AMC’s traditional huts are unheated and have no electricity. We’ll supply the board games and books—leave the iPad chargers at home!
  • All youth and children must be accompanied by an adult.
